Guenther Steiner leaves Haas 2 months before the season
Guenther Steiner has left the Haas F1 team after 10 years as team principal but with not much success as a team.
Haas F1 team is the latest team to join F1 who joined in 2014. Since then Guenther Steiner has been the team principal but the results haven’t been great.
The Netflix F1 documentary, “Drive to Survive”, gave a lot of fame to Guenther. Many fans loved his outspoken and blunt manners with everyone. However, this wasn’t enough to maintain him in the team.
Haas ended the season in 10th place in the Constructors Championship with an undriveable car.
Simone Resta, the team’s technical director, also left the team.
The team waited no time to announce the replacement. Gene Haas named Ayao Komatsu as the new team principal, the previous trackside engineering director. Many things are expected from the Japanese but first of all to take the team to the midtable.
Team owner, Gene Haas, stated:
“I’d like to start by extending my thanks to Guenther Steiner for all his hard work over the past decade and I wish him well for the future,”
“Moving forward as an organization it was clear we need to improve our on-track performances.”
“We have had some successes, but we need to be consistent in delivering results that help us reach our wider goals as an organization. We need to be efficient with the resources we have but improving our design…”
On top of that, he gave the heads-up that they will be looking for a European-based chief operating officer very soon. However, the task won’t be an easy one as the team stated: “[chief operating officer needs to] take responsibility for the team’s overall strategy, and ultimately on-track performance”.
Do you think this was a good idea?
