The arrangement has been that 10 CONMEBOL national team are going to play and 6 national teams from CONCACAF. CONCACAF’s teams are going to be selected by their 2023-2024 Nations League.

This is going to help places like the Caribbean show their skills in an international level with a bigger audience than what they are used too.

The 2024 Copa America is going to be hosted on the United States. Some of the stadiums that are set to be used for the 2026 World Cup are going to be used during the competition. Due to this, teams are going to be able to have a taste, and even take it as a preparation, for what the World Cup will bring.

An agreement has also been achieved for the Woman side. In this case, the two federation will join forces in 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup. CONMEBOL will bring 4 national teams to the competition. The teams have already been chosen. They will be the 4 2022 Women’s Copa America finalist:

  1. Brazil
  2. Colombia
  3. Argentina
  4. Paraguay

For the other confederation, the two countries who qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics will have a straight pass. On the other hand, the other 6 nations will gain their place with the 2023 road to CONCACAF W Gold Cup.

This isn’t going to be the first time that the Copa America is not going to be played on a South American country, either the first time outside countries will participate. We have the great example of United States team. They were previously invited on 2016 and even became a semifinalist on that occasion.
