The individual awards keep on raining over the Argentinian legend. After winning the 2023 Ballon d’Or the only individual award left was FIFA the Best. As with each one of all the awards of this past year, the top three contenders were Erling Haaland – Manchester City’s new superstar, Kylian Mbappe – PSG’s and France’s forward, and Lionel Messi – the Argentinian legend who recently moved to the MLS team Inter Miami.

The timeline considered for this award was from Dec. 19, 2022, to Aug. 20, 2023. This means that the 2022 Qatar World Cup wasn’t taken into consideration.

During the year Messi won Ligue 1 with PSG. However, he was very criticized during his last matches with the team. Secondly, he won the League Cup with the MLS side, Inter Miami. Thirdly, he led Argentina to the top of the CONMEBOL’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Erling Haaland had one of the best years of his career. He managed to win the Treble with Manchester City, however, his international participation wasn’t very bright.

Lastly, Kylian Mbappe only managed to win the Ligue 1 but had a very incredible role with France national team, leading the team.

In the end, Messi was chosen as “The Best” but wasn’t present to collect the award. Haaland was chosen as the runner-up with Mbappe in third place.
