Atletico Madrid pass over Sevilla with a 6-1 victory
Atletico Madrid gave Diego Simeone a very special record breaking day as the won 6-1 over Sevilla and claimed the 3rd position in La Liga.
This was a very special day for Madrid and Simeone. This was his 613th game with Atletico as a trainer a new record for Atletico Madrid. For this spacial game, Simeone decided to give Memphis Depay a chance as a starter and didn’t disappoint.
Madrid started the game pushing very hard on the 5 men Sevilla stablished in the defense. It didn’t take long for Memphis to score the opening goal (23′). Not wasting any time, just 3 minutes after his first goal, Depay scored his second goal of the night (26′). Youssef En-Nesyri broke Atletico’s defensive line and scored for Sevilla. The first half ended with Madrid dominating the game and Sevilla with some hopes of at least a tie.
The second half came around and Griezmann scored another goal for Atletico and in an astonishing way (53′). This just created a snowball effect and they kept scoring goals. In the 69th minute Ynnick Carrasco scored their 4th goal. Ivan Rakitic was given the chance to close the gap between both teams with a penalty. He missed the penalty and shortly after Álvaro Morata scored the 5th goal for Atletico Madrid. This wasn’t enough for Morata as just before the game ended scored another goal (90+2′)
Sevilla, whom haven’t won any of their last 3 games now sit at 16th with only one point separating them from relegation. On the other hand Atletico Madrid moved into 3rd place.
