Both teams came into this match with hopes of washing off what happened in the World Cup. They were both disqualified in the group stage. Even though this was a friendly they played it with all their force.

Germany needs to strengthen up as they will be Euro 2024 host and are looking to make a good impression. On the other hand, Belgium are looking to put an end to the horrible past years.

Game Highlights

Belgium came into the field looking superior than Germany. With just 6 minutes into the game, Yannick Carrasco scored a beautiful goal to open the night. Leaving no time for Germany to respond, Romelu Lukaku scored the second goal (9′). This second goal came when Germany lost the ball in the half of the field and a counterattack was quickly made.

In the 15th minute, the Belgians lost the ball inside their box but reacted fast enough to stop any shots from being made. From the corner created with the previous play, Dodi Lukebakio managed to grasp the ball but lost the 1v1 against Tar Stegen. The pressure Belgium was creating was very high and thanks to it they were creating many good opportunities.

The tables turned when in the 43rd minute Germany conceded a penalty after a handball from Lukaku. Nicolas Füllkrug took the shot and scored it (44′).

Germany came into the second half with full throttle. Things started to look better for the Germans. They had a goal angulated due to an offside (54′). They were cut short when with a counter-attack Kevin De Bruyne extended Belgium’s lead (78′).

Germany had one last glimpse of victory after Serge Gantry scored (87′). This wasn’t enough and Belgium emerged victorious after a match that didn’t feel like a friendly.
