Kazakhstan made the impossible possible today
Kazakhstan have won their match against Denmark with an incredible comeback 3-2. That are now 3rd in their Euro qualifying group.
Kazakhstan who currently sit at number 114 in the FIFA rankings has stunned everyone by winning against Denmark who is currently ranked 10th. This is just their 3rd victory in the last four years. They have only won against San Marino and Scotland.
Denmark came into this match as the clear favorites and as leaders in group H. The match that was played in Astana Arena, Kazakhstan home field, was thought to be an easy win for them, but things didn’t go as planed.
Game highlights
The game started and Denmark quickly made its presence feel. They were completely controlling the game. With just 21 minutes of game time, Rasmus Højlund scored the opener of the night. Minutes after Højlund did it again and scored after the rebound that had been blocked.
Denmark went into the pause winning 0-2 and thinking the game was already in the bag, but little did they know what the future had them in store.
The match was back on it way and Denmark wasn’t attacking that much. Not that many shots were made. However, on the 70th minute, Kazakhstan managed to make several shots. Many of them looked promising, but the play ended in a corner.
The corner came and due to a handball from Denmark’s defense a penalty was awarded. Bakhtiyon Zaynutdinor stepped up to take it. He managed to score it and gave some hope to his country (73′).
After that, on the 86th minute, Askhat Tagybergen with a runner scored from outside the box and tied the game. With the game now tied Kazakhstan was already making this game a historic one, but they weren’t pleased yet.
Abat Aymbetou came into the field after being substituted in the 78th minute. On the 89th minute he scored a header that gave his nation the lead and the victory! Aymebetou celebrations were cut short after he got his second yellow card, so he was sent off.
As a result of this victory, Kazakhstan have moved into 3rd place with just one goal way from Denmark who sit in second place of the group H.
