Sergio Perez dominates the streets of Jeddah
Sergio Perez took the victory in the Saudia Arabian Grand Prix after dominating most of the race, making this his fifth victory in Formula 1.
Red Bull came into this race as current leaders in both drivers and constructors championship. Max Verstappen suffered an engine problem during qualifying day and had to start in 15th, but his team mate Sergio Perez managed to take the Pole position.
Charles Leclerc got second place but had a ten position penalty so he started in twelfth place. Who moved into the second place in the grid was Fernando Alonso looking to achieve his hundredth podium finish. Gorge Russell secured the third place for Sunday’s race.
Race highlight
As the lights came out in Jeddah Alonso, with an impressive start, took the lead of the race from Perez. His teammate Lance Stroll also managed to have a good start as he overtook Carlos Sainz in the first lap. The joy of Fernando didn’t last long as he received a five second penalty due to incorrect starting location.
On the fourth lap Perez retook the lead of the race from Alonso.
Just in the twelfth lap Leclerc had climbed into seventh place and Verstappen into eight.
The bad news kept coming for Aston Martin as Stroll was forced to leave the race after an engine problem. A safety car was deployed and many drivers pitted. Between those divers was Alonso who had to serve his five second penalty.
On the restart, Lewis Hamilton managed to put enough pressure on Sainz and forced the error out of him. Hamilton didn’t loos the opportunity and passed him.
With exactly the half of the race still to go, Verstappen overtook Fernando and sat at second place. He only had his teammate Perez in front, but he started to have some issues with his car that didn’t permitted him to catch up.
Moving into lap twenty six Alex Alton suffers a break failure and had to abandon the race.
Sergio Perez crossed the finish line in first place with his teammate Max in second place. Verstappen took the fastest lap of the race. This extra point served him to maintain the lead in the drivers championship. Fernando Alonso ended the race third, but was given a very controversial penalty post race.

Just as the race ended Frenando Alonso received a ten second penalty since the stewards said that hi didn’t serve his penalty properly. They claimed that the back jack was touching the car before the time of the penalty ended. With the penalty in place Fernando lost his 100th podium and the third place was given to Russell.
Aston Martin weren’t happy with that decision. The discussed the decision and managed to win the case. Thanks to this Alonso was given back his 100th podium finish and the third position.
