Susi Wolff is named head of the new Formula 1 women’s academy
Susi Wolff has been named head of the new F1 academy. The objective of this academy is to form young women and help them progress in the sport.
Wolff is a former Venturi Formula E team principal and wife of Mercedes F1 team principal Toto Wolff. She will now be managing director of the Formula One academy that starts this year. This was announced this Wednesday.
“This presents an opportunity to promote genuine change in our industry by creating the best possible structure to find and nurture female talent on their journey to the elite levels of motorsport, both on and off the racetrack.” Wolff stated in her social media.
Susi Wolff is also a former racer. She competed in the German Touring Cars (DTM) and was one of Williams F1 team development drivers. This gives her a great understanding of wast needed and expected for women to succeed in the sport.
There have only been two women to ever participate in a Formula 1 World Championship season. The last one was Lella Lombardi in 1976. Lombardi was the only women to ever scored points in a Formula 1 World Championship.
Are we going to be seen more women enter the Formula one in the years to come? Tell us in the comment section your thoughts!
