After tieing 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, both teams came to this match knowing that the winner would get their ticket to Istanbul. The last time both of these teams met Manchester was eliminated in the previous few minutes of their match with one of the most remarkable comebacks we’ve seen in the competition. Therefore there was a lot at stake for both teams.

Manchester who is having one of the best seasons in their history is looking to complete the treble this season. Madrid has already lost the battle for La Liga against their rivals FC Barcelona, so the Champions League was a competition they hope to win.

Game highlights

Man City came into the field with all the cylinders rolling on maximum power. As soon as the match started they took control of the ball. Very early on, Thibaut Courtois started receiving many visitors at his house. He managed to maintain them outside for quite a while, but with a pass that cut right throw through Madrid’s defensive line, Bernardo Silva netted the first goal for Manchester City (23′).

It wasn’t long after the intense pressure that Silva found the back of the net to set the score 2-0 (37′). this gave some breathing space to City and a lot of pressure on Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos could bearly touch the ball during this first half.

During the second half, Madrid came somewhat stronger, but it was still not enough. Manchester City was still looking much superior and the numbers demonstrated it. They had almost triple the amount of passes and possession during some points of the match.

With a free kick that Kevin De Brune took, he centered the ball and Manuel Akanji header the ball towards Madrid’s goal, and with the help of Eder Militao City was sealing their faith (76′).

The Big surprise was the fact that Erling Haaland wasn’t appearing as he used to during this season. Pep Guardiola decided to substitute him for Julián Álvarez and it paid off. Having just some minutes in he scored the fourth and final goal to completely liquidate Real Madrid (90′ + 2′).

What’s up next?

Guardiola and Manchester are going to be traveling to Istanbul, Turkey to fight for the trophy against Inter Milan. This is going to be the second UCL final for Pep with City, last time they lost 1-0 against Chelsea.

Are Manchester City going to achieve the treble now that the possibilities are higher? What do you think?
