The Emilia Romagna GP has been canceled after heavy flooding
The Emilia Romagna GP has been canceled after the harsh weather condition that has been causing floods around the region.
This week’s heavy weather has been creating rains and flooding around the northern region of Italy. Even though the pilots and the majority of the team haven’t arrived at the paddock there are some working on arranging the garage and hospitality. Tuesday, they had to evacuate due to the risk of the Santero River overflowing.
After a meeting between the F1 officials and the local authorities, the F1 decided to suspend the race. They will be looking into rescheduling the Emilia Romagna GP, but with the tight calendar, it’ll be difficult.
“Following discussions between Formula 1, the President of the FIA, the competent authorities…the decision has been taken not to proceed with the Grand Prix weekend in Imola.” Satated the F1 through their social media.
“…it is not possible to safely hold the event for our fans, the teams, and our personnel and it is the right and responsible thing to do given the situation faced by the towns and cities in the region.”
With the Chinese GP canceled as well the total amount of races this year will be 22 for the moment. However, this won’t stop all the action and racing to continue next week at the Monaco GP.
Our thought and condolences go to all the affected by this disaster.
