Javier Tebas has resigned from his position as LaLiga president looking to be reelected for what might be his fourth period.

Tebas has been the president of LaLiga for almost 10 years already. His first mandate started in 2013 and ever since he has remained in the position with nearly no competitors in elections.

This term was supposed to end on December 26 of this year. However, Tebas has resigned now in order to speed up the preparations for the elections. Meanwhile, he is going to be substituted by Miguel Ángel Gil Marín and Quico Catalán, the two vice presidents. Nonetheless, they will be accompanied by María José López Lorenzo.

It’s expected that Javier Tebas is going to win once again since he might be the only candidate. This will mean Tebas will be the head of the Spanish league for one more term.

Many people have expressed both their excitement and their disappointment about this, almost, undebated reelection. Some think that a new Tebas term is going to help the league grow even further. On the other hand, there are others who feel this is going to decrease the league’s status.
