After suffering a 5-3 defeat against Villareal, doubts and the pressure skyrocketed once again for Barcelona. This caused that after the match Xavi announced that he planned to end the season with the club and departure.

It’s been a tough season but a specially hard month for the club. They lost the Supercopa final 4-1 against Real Madrid and were eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Athletic Club after a 4-2 defeat in the quarterfinals. On top of all that, they have one foot outside the 2025 Supercopa after exiting the Copa del Rey.

“I will leave Barcelona in June.”

“We have reached a point of no return. It’s time for change. As a Culé, I think that it’s time to leave.

“I spoke with the board and the club today. I will leave on the 30th of June.”

These were the words from Xavi announcing his departure.

A deal to have Xavi on the bench until 2025 had previously been signed with Barcelona. However, it seems like everything will be thrown out the window.

He claimed that the decision was made before today’s game but he felt that now was the right moment to announce it. This decision is “irreversible” even if the club’s performance augments in the last part of the season.

Barcelona sits 10 points behind the LaLiga leaders Real Madrid but have their round of 16 next month against Napoli.

Will this help or completely terminate Barca’s performance?
