Blue Cards are going to be joining professional football
Blue Cards will join professional football after the International Football Association Board (IFAB) approved it.
After last year the talks for a new penalization system similar to the one on rugby, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), approved the Blue Cards to be used in professional football. The players who receive this card will be removed from the field for 10 min. It will be given to players that committee a cynical foul or a show dissent.
This is a revolutionary addition to the game that wants to reduce the amount of fouls committed during a game. This card has similar functions as the yellow card. If a player gets two he will be given a red card. However, as well, if the player gets one yellow card and one blue card it will also be given a red card.
The IFAB will announce it on Friday as part of the sin-bin trials, becoming the first new card since the 1970 World Cup.
The top-tier competitions are excluded for the moment while some final errors are found. Once everything is checked it will be included at all levels. It’s expected that this will happen this summer.
The Football Association is considering volunteering for the FA Cup and the women’s FA Cup for the trials next season. On the other hand, UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferir is completely opposed to the Blue Cards. He claims they are going to harm the game.
