Dani Alves, ex-Barcelona player, has been sentenced to 4 and a half years in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault.

Dani Alves after being declared guilty of sexual assault

After 3 days of hearing at Catalonia’s top court, many testimonies and facts have come to light. The Brazilian star, charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona on December 31, 2022, gave his fifth version of the story. This time he claimed that they had sexual relations but he didn’t want to admit it due to his wife. However, one thing that has been constant in all his stories is that it was all consensual and mutual.

The same night of the incident, the woman called the police to report what happened. During the trial, these officers were called to testify. They claimed that the victim was very shaken when they arrived.

Days later, Alves was arrested and has been in pre-court arrest ever since.

Today, February 22, 2024, the court has ruled in favor of the victim and dictated a 4.5-year prison sentence against Dani Alves. This also came with a €150,000.00 fine, the expenses of the legal process, 5-year probation, and a 9.5-year restraining order. Several years less than what the prosecutor was looking for initially (9-year).

The 40-year-old’s lawyer, Ines Guardiola, said he would appeal this decision since he truly believes his client is innocent.
