Nottingham Forest was handed a 4-point deduction
Nottingham Forest was given a 4-point deduction on Monday after breaching the Premier League’s Financial Rules.
The Premier League continues sanctioning clubs. Now it was the turn for Nottingham. The English club was found guilty of breaching the financial rules imposed by the Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR).
The PSR take into consideration the last 3 years. However, since Forest only has two years in the premier league (counting this season) the budget they could spend was less than any other, normal, PL team.
Entering the first division for the 2022/2023 season they broke the league’s record for most transfers in the close-season window. Thay managed to get 21 separate deals completed.
This points have cost Nottingham Forest very much as a result, they now sit in the relegation zone. Having 25 points prior to the sentence they now sit at 18th with 21 points in 29 games.
The club waisted no time to release a statement: “Nottingham Forest is extremely disappointed with the decision of the Commission to impose a sanction on the Club of four points, to be applied with immediate effect.”
“After months of engagement with the Premier League, and exceptional cooperation throughout, this was unexpected and has harmed the trust and confidence we had in the Premier League.”
Likewise, Everton was the other PL team to get sanction. They initially got a 10 points deduction but after appealing managed to take it down to 6 points.
Will Nottingham Forest have the same faith as Everton did or will they stay with the same sanction?
