Juventus won the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta
Juventus won the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta for their first trophy in three years after they won the 2020-21 Coppa.
Atalanta and Juventus knew this could be one of their only chances of winning silverware this season. Knowing this, both teams came set to give it all.
The match started and Dusan Vlahovic didn’t lose any time and in the 4th minute of the match scored the opening goal of the final. From that moment on Juventus started to play a more defensive game. Atalanta was dominating the ball but was unable to create real chances. In the second half, it was more of the same. However, VAR annulated Juve’s second goal due to offside. The match ended giving the victory to Juventus once again.
This has become their first trophy in 3 years. The last time was in the 2020/21 Coppa Italia where they also won against Atalanta. On the other hand, this is Atalanta’s fifth straight Coppa Italia final loss, only winning the competition in the 1962/63 season.
The good news for Atalanta is that they still have one more chance of lifting a trophy this season. On Wednesday they will be facing Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League Final.
Juventus are the most winning team in Coppa history (15) and the one with most appearances in the finals (22). Also, Massimiliano Allegri, their coach, is the first coach to win the competition 5 times.
Does this mean that Juve will be able to return to their dominating years once again next season?
