Manchester United won the FA Cup over Manchester City
Manchester United won the FA Cup final 2-1 over Manchester City with an outstanding defensive performance.
The Manchester derby was the scenario set for the 2024 FA Cup final at Wembley. Winning the Premier League for the fourth time in a row, Manchester City were the favorites coming into the match. However, nobody knew what was coming.
United showed an immaculate first half. Their fierce defense neutralized City’s attacking power. Their high-pressing defense helped Alejandro Garnacho (30′) and Kobbie Mainoo (39′) score and gave many hopes to Manchester United fans.
The second half showed more of the same however with more intense pressure from Man City, Jérémy Doku, scored (87′) to give hopes back in the final moments of the game. Nonetheless, this wasn’t enough and Manchester United won the FA Cup.
This is the second year in a row both teams have faced each other in the FA Cup final. Last year City won 1-0 and now the result has turned.
“It’s been a tough season with ups and downs. This is the only thing we’ve had to look forward to,” Mainoo said. “We knew we had to come together. The preparation for this game has been amazing. We’ve shown we can compete and win games.”
This is their 13th time as Champions missing one to tie Arsenal who have 14. It’s also the second trophy they have won after Erik ten Hag took over the team. This came just in time as many thought his job would have been on the line if he didn’t emerge victorious this Saturday.
