Real Madrid are back in the Champions League final

Real Madrid are back to another Champions League final after beating Bayern Munich in a controversial ending semifinal.

Last week Bayern and Madrid faced in Munich for the first leg of their semifinal matchup. An intense back-and-forth match was played but the score ended 2-2 leaving everything up to the second leg.

Now, moving to Madrid for the second leg the ambiance in the Bernabeu was one to fear. The match was another fierce battle between the two giants. The first half ended with a lot of action but no goals. On the other hand, the second half was a completely different story.

Alphonse Davies gave the advantage to the German side with a counterattack that took the Spaniards off guard (68′). Off the bench, Joselu equalized after an error from Manuel Neuer (88′), and shortly after, with a cross from Antonio Rudiger, Joselu gave the advantage to the home side (90′ + 1′).

Polemics have rosed since in the final minutes of the match Bayern Munich scored a goal that was ruled out by an offside call. However, the problem came since the offside was given before the play had ended. The official had blown his whistle before the goal therefore VAR was unable to intervene since the images show that the German player wasn’t offside.

“The linesman said to me: ‘Sorry, I’ve made a mistake.'” said Matthijs de Ligt after the game.

Nonetheless, Real Madrid is the one who will face yesterday’s winner Borussia Dortmund at Wembley for the final on June 1st. They will be looking for their 15th European crown. This ticket means that Madrid will be in their 6th Champions League final in 10 years.
