Real Madrid Foundation, a scandal over an event at the Bernabeu
The Real Madrid Foundation has been reported by the FACUA – Consumers after irregular donations found in Luis Miguel’s ticket sales.
In July 2024, Luis Miguel is going to have a concert at the Santiago Bernabeu. The popularity of the singer has helped sell out all the tickets. However, things aren’t looking too bright.
The FACUA – Consumers have presented to the Ministry of Social Rights of Spain an accusation involving Madrid’s Foundation. It was found that in the ticket sales of the concert, people were forced to donate to two organizations. As a result, the tickets, sold by Ticketmaster, had an extra 2.20 euros for the Real Madrid Foundation and 1.10 euros for the Maestro Cares Foundation. That is to say, this charge was mandatory for all consumers.
FACUA’s job is to protect the Consumers and after being notified of the situation open a case. They classified this action as an “abusive” practice and above all, as an action that goes against the meaning of a donation. They also mentioned, “that [a donation] is a payment that is done in a voluntary manner and in a selfless form”.
Speculation arises around the reason for these actions and some signals point to an economic help to the soccer club. Real Madrid needs to give 30% of all their sales to one of the levers used. Some question if these “donations” are also trying to mitigate those payments.
What reasons do you believe are behind these actions?
