Bayer Leverkusen won their first-ever Bundesliga title

Bayer Leverkusen won their first-ever Bundesliga title ending Bayern Munich’s 11 years of straight dominance of the league.

Bayer Leverkusen celebrating their victory over SV Werder and their first ever Bundesliga title with Xabi Alonso in as Head Coach

Bayer Leverkusen faced SV Werder Berman needing only the victory to proclaim itself as the new Bundesliga champions. Coming from a season (2022/23) where they just managed to get 6th place by having two more goals VfL Wolfsburg nobody expected Leverkusen to be fighting for the league title. However, Xabi Alonso, who recently confirmed his continuation in the team for next season, took a midtable team and turned them into a beast.

In a match that was going to become history, Bayer had the chance to win the league, but not only that, they were going to do it at home. The ambiance in the stadium was one of a kind. Fans filled the BayArena to support their club.

Bayern Leverkusen completed a match with clear dominance over Werder. They had more than twice the amount of shots Werder had and more posesión. Leverkusen scored 5 and left none for their rivals with incredible shots, penalties, and plays by:

  • Victor Boniface 25′ (P)
  • Granit Xhaka 60′
  • Florian Wirtz 68′, 83′, 90′

Just as time ran out, the fans grew increasingly desperate, all wanting to celebrate their achievement with the team. With the final whistle blow, the fans stormed into the field in masses and celebrated like never before.

What’s next?

Nonetheless, there are still even more achievements the German club can complete. Firstly, they have a clear chance of winning the Europa League. Secondly, they could become among the few teams to win unbeaten league titles. Thirdly, they are in the final of the DFB Polka championship. No matter what ends happening they have already made history and nobody knows what else they will be able to achieve in the upcoming years.

What else would you like to see Bayer Leverkusen win this season or next?
