Real Madrid are the 2024 LaLiga Champions
Real Madrid has been crowned the champions of the 2023/24 LaLiga season after Girona beat Barcelona at home.
Real Madrid had to win and wait for the Catalan derby if they wanted to be called champions. They did their job beating Cadiz 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu. Now they had to wait a couple hours to find the result of the derby.
Girona beat Barcelona 4-2 and secured their Champions League spot next season and the LaLiga for Real Madrid. Now Barcelona has descended to the third place in the table and will officially go trophyless this season.
Madrid seat with a 13-point lead and with its 36th LaLiga title. However, celebrations have been postponed since the team preparations for this week’s UCL semifinals against Bayern. If they advance and win the finals it will seal them a magnificent double.
Season recap
Real has been suffering from many important long-term injured players. This is the case of Thibaut Courtois, Éder Militão, and Dabid Alaba who had ACL tears at the start of the season. Courtois and Militão have rejoined the team this month, ready for the rest of the season.
Although they had such important losses in the squad, Real Madrid has only lost one league game. Nonetheless, this game was against Atletico Madrid on September 24.
Regarding individual recognitions, this is Ancelotti’s second league title since he returned in 2021. Also, Luka Modric and Nacho have tied Karmi Benzema and Marcelo as Real’s most decorated players in the club with 25 trophies.
