The Platano Power beats Nicaragua with eyes on the trophy
The Platano Power get their first victory in the World Baseball Classic beating Nicaragua 6-1 and completely dominating the game.
Juan Soto leaded the Dominican team to their first victory of the tournament. They had previously suffered a defeat in their opening game against Venezuela. Soto had an incredible game going 2-for-4 and scoring a home run and three runs more.
This home run in the sixth inning became his first in a World Baseball Classic. Nicaragua’s Junior Tellez could only smiled as he saw Soto’s home run.
The Dominicans brought a sash, known as a “nona” for them, to celebrate after each home run. They didn’t have the chance to use it in their first game, but the story changed this time around.
Manny Machado didn’t want to be left out of the home run party. In the seventh inning he scored a solo home run leaving Nicaragua with almost no possibilities of bouncing back. They did score one run at the eighth inning setting the scored 6-1.
It’s also important to highlight the great defense the Platano Power team showed. Cristian Javier tossed 4 scoreless innings as he made his debut in the competition. The others only permitted one run during the remaining five innings.
