As all the years from a while back, the Champions League and the Europa League champions face each other for the UEFA Super Cup. This time was the turn for Man City, UCL champion, and Sevilla, UEL champion. A recurrent final for Sevilla but a first for City.

The match started with City putting a lot of pressure on Sevilla’s side, however, a quick counterattack ended with Youssef En-Nesyri scoring the first goal for Sevilla (25′). This repeated several times but they could make no other goals. In the second half, Manchester City came with a fresh mindset and regained control of the match. This ended well for them and Cole Palmer managed to equal the scoreboard with a header (63′). Yassine Bounou didn’t have an easy match, receiving shot after shot from City.

The regular time ended and the match had to be resolved with a penalty shootout. Manchester and Sevilla scored all 4-first shots. Kyle Walker stepped up to take the last pen for Man City and he made it by an inch. Bounou almost caught it but it scaped underneath his hand. Afterward came Nemanja Gudelj, his shot came with a lot of power but this wasn’t enough and it struck the crossbar crowning Manchester City as the 2023 UEFA Super Cup champions.

Just as it was the first Champions League for City this has become the first Super Cup as well. Pep Guardiola now owns a total of 15 trophies while being Manchester City’s manager. This is a great start to the season for the team.

How many more trophies is Manchester City going to win this season? How many more can Guardiola win with them?
