Jannik Sinner lifting the 2024 Miami Open trophy after winning it for the first time against the underdog Grigor Dimitrov

Sinner is having a strong start to the 2024 season and now sits with a 22-1 record. His only loss came against Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final. This time he faced one of the titles that had already slipped off his hand twice. The first time was in 2021 and the second was last year against Daniil Medvedev. The Italian player came with a trophy already in his power thanks to his victory in the Australian Open in January.

Jannik Sinner and Grigor Dimitrov were to decide this year’s champion in a 79-degree weather. From the start, the crowd had a clear favorite, the 11th-seed underdog Dimitrov. Chants in his favor could be heard all match long. However, this wasn’t enough to help him win since the Bulgarian player was quickly overpowered by the Italian who won 6-3 in the first set and 6-1 in the second. The match only took 1 hour and 13 minutes to finish.

Even after losing, Dimitrov will move to the top 10 ranking for the first time since 2018 thanks to his incredible performance in the tournament. He ended Alcaraz’s 2024 Miami Open in the quarterfinals and Alexander Zverer’s in the semifinals. On the other hand, Jannik Sinner is going to become the 2nd-seeded.

Now we move to the clay court season in Europe.

Will Jannik Sinner keep the great form he has demonstrated until now?
