The US Open stay home with Coco Gauff’s first grand slam

The US Open has been won by an American once again with Coco Gauff beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final with a 2-1 victory.

The number 2 (until Monday) and the number 6 of the world in the ATP ranking faced each other in the US Open Final. Coco Gauff being in home soil had the entire crowd cheering for her. The 19-year-old tennis player has had a very successful career. She won multiple championships, but a grand slam was still missing in her cabinet. She became the second female American to get to the US Open final.

On the other hand, Aryna Sabalenka, who is having one of the best seasons of her life, was aiming to become the number 1 in the ATP ranking, but also to take the trophy home in this tournament.

Sabalenk started dominating the American player in the first set, easily winning it. She won it 2-6. Many thought this was going to be an easy final for the Belarusian player after seeing that set. Little did they know they were in for a battle.

Gauff came from the defeat and managed to maintain at bay the Belarusian player and won the second set. She managed to do it dominating 6-3 and this was just the start. She continued her dominating game during the third set gaining an advantage of 4-0. Aryna managed to respond back dominating the two following games however was later overwhelmed by the American who won 6-2 the set and with it the match.

Coco Gauff became the first American teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999. She took home the sum of 3 million dollars thanks to the victory
