Stefanos Tsitsipas went into tears after winning the Monte Carlo (ATP Masters 1000) title against Casper Ruud.
A final matchup nobody could’ve predicted. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud weren’t the favorites to arrive at the final when this tournament started. Managed to beat some tough opponents along the way. Tsitsipas beat Jannik Sinner, the Australian Open winner, in the semifinals, while Ruud won against Novak Djokovic to arrive at the final.
With both of these underdogs arriving at the final nothing could’ve predicted the outcome. However, the Greek player, who knows what it means to win this tournament left no doubt on why he has already won it twice. He swept the match with two sets, 6-1 and 6-4, to claim the victory.
This victory meant a lot to Tsitsipas who went into tears after the victory. This is his first major title of the year and the third time in the past four years he has won the Monte Carlo Masters (2021, 2022, and 2024). Stefanos now has a total of 11 career titles and still looking for more.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was the 12th seed coming into the tournament but now he will be moved up to No. 7 in the ATP ranking once it’s updated on Monday.
What performance will we be seeing from Tsitsipas in Roland Garros coming up next month?
