UEFA Player of the Year goes to … Haaland and Bonmatí

Erling Haaland and Aitana Bonmatí won the 2022/2023 UEFA Player of the Year award after having incredible seasons each.

After a season full of record-breaking goals, Haaland has won one of the most prestige individual awards as a UEFA player. The 22-year-old Norwegian attacker scored 52 goals during the season becoming the player with the most goals this season. Not only this but he was a key part in winning the Treble with Manchester City. For him, the Treble consisted of winning the Premier League, Champions League, and the FA Cup.

This has been Haaland’s second individual award of the week since he also received the PFA Player of the Year award. However, it’s the first time he has won this award

In Second place we had Lionel Messi and in third Kevin De Bruyne.

Aitana Bonmatí

The 25-year-old Spaniard that makes football look easy. The Barcelona player won the Women’s Champions League and the Liga F with her team. She was a crucial part of this season’s team not only in her club but also in her nation. Bonmatí was one of the key figures in Spain’s road to becoming World Champions even winning the Golden Ball of the tournament.

In second place we had another Spanish player, Olga Carmona, and in third place was the Brazilian, Sam Kerr.

Both UEFA Player of the Year winners, Erling Haaland and Aitana Bonmatí are clear candidates for the 2023 Ballon d’Or. Bonmatí currently sits as the favorite while Haaland has more competition with Messi very close to him.
